PRICING

Unlike many large commercial printers that price by the print, I serve artists who understand where the time and labor is in the printing and scanning process: set-up, density and color balance, and final, detailed experimentation that differentiates a good print from a spectacular one.  As a result my pricing on the prints themselves (and especially multiples, after the set-up is complete) is quite reasonable compared to many alternatives.

There is, however, no way around the fact that time spent is the key to a superior final product.  I always have an honest dialogue with my clients about where their investment goes, and to me it’s dishonest to say that most of it goes to paper and ink.  Those can become significant, but time is undoubtedly the greatest driver of cost.  So unlike most labs my projects involve a set-up charge that covers that time, and a lesser per-print charge to cover the more definitive material costs.

Bottom line, there are three key points I hope you’ll consider:

  • Every job is different, and each will be quoted individually.  Maybe you have an image from a camera file that, when I see it, I think will print quickly and easily.  I will tell you so, and that will be the basis of my quote.  Or you might have an image with multiple light sources that is under-exposed and looks like it will take many hours trying different solutions to create a print that matches your vision.  I will tell you, and the time I think it will take to get there

  • An About Light quote is a final quote.  Once I quote your job, you will never pay more to get to the final product...period

  • Every job has a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If you’re not happy with the outcome, there is no charge, and no hard feelings

So if you’re intrigued by the sort of approach that About Light offers, please email or give me a call.  I will look at your original, paper request, etc. and prepare a quote as soon as I can.
