Professional and serious amateur photographers see the world around them through a different filter than almost everyone else. It’s a metaphorical lens through which we perceive composition, texture and light. In our minds, we imagine what the photographic representation of that scene can become. But we also know that capturing the image is just the first step toward achieving that final print we conjured in our mind.

In digital photography and finishing, we’ve lost some of the warmth in our images; a warmth that could only be achieved in a darkroom. Or so I thought.

I’ve taken many images over the years and stored them on hard drives without ever making a print. Quite frankly, I wasn’t happy with the look today’s custom labs were achieving. Guy has achieved digitally, what I thought was near impossible; transitioning the best attributes of the chemical process into the digital age. I don’t know how he does it and quite frankly I don’t care. The results speak for themselves. He is an artist.
